What To Expect From Resurfacing / Refinishing / Reglazing:

ABC Custom Coatings has dedicated this web site to informing and educating the general public about these new and exciting refinishing, resurfacing, reglazing options. Using our modern refinishing techniques, and the best materials our well trained technicians can help you realize a saving of up to 80%  over the cost of replacement. This huge savings can be applied elsewhere in your overall remodeling plan thereby allowing you to either upgrade in other areas. Stained, chipped, and hard to clean surfaces are unsightly and unhealthy and can create a negative impression to your guest, customers or clients. Refinishing will give the old fixtures a smooth glossy or satin finish in a matter of hours. This non porous finish actually meets or exceeds manufacturer's specifications for stain and acid resistance. Bathtub refinishing, tile refinishing and Counter top refinishing is the most cost effective way to remodel your kitchen and bath fixtures.

Resurfacing /refinishing / reglazing is an excellent alternative to replacement of worn or color dated bathtubs, showers, tile and countertops.  It can restore 75% to 95% of the useful life of most surfaces and offers huge savings of time and money when compared to replacement. It is a great value!

The average homeowner's first thought when you mention the term remodeling their kitchen and bath is to "Tear out and Replace" the room. Fortunately there is now an affordable way to renew your kitchens and bathrooms without all the hassles, cost and  inconveniences of conventional remodeling. This is also known as refinishing, resurfacing or Reglazing.

Since kitchens and baths are the rooms that usually have the most hard surfaces these are where the largest challenges and expenses occur.  Complete or conventional remodeling involves messy tear out of not only the fixtures but also removal of the floors, beams, walls, then rebuilding the rooms from scratch using new materials. The benefits to these options are many, but because of the mess, daily lack of privacy, inconvenience and cost, the TIME...this is not a viable option for most of us.

The concept and procedure have actually been around for about 50 years but is still mostly not known about to the average homeowner. The basic procedure or application of the refinishing products have generally stayed the same. However, the evolution of chemical coatings technology has evolved about as fast as computer technology.  Most of our recent breakthroughs have been in bonding (the ability for a chemical coating to adhere), to a surface plus extreme durability, and accelerated dry times.  If refinishing / reglazing / resurfacing  is done correctly it is an extremely cost effective alternative and  value than conventional remodeling.

At ABC Custom Coatings, we use the latest in chemical coating technology, we can restore cultured marble, formica, tile almost any hard kitchen or bath counter top to a Corion Granite Like Hard as rock and impervious to chemicals our customers realize a saving of 50% to 90% plus the best warranty in the business. Please enter the site and view our unique processes of refinishing, resurfacing, and Reglazing.
Resurfacing / refinishing / reglazing is not "bulletproof".  Just as a porcelain or fiberglass bathtub can be chipped, scratched, cut, and will wear out over time, a resurfaced tub can be: chipped, scratched, and cut and will eventually wear out.  We are guaranteeing that the application will be free of defects in materials and workmanship, and that the finish will not blister or peel for the duration of the warranty, (assuming that you follow the below listed guidelines).

The actual lifetime of your refinished tub will vary depend upon how it is cared for.

Care and Maintenance for your Custom Coatings
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
  • DO NOT use the finish for 48 hours after refinishing or as instructed.  When removing the masking paper, peel it off slowly and in an upward and outward direction. Use particular care around the drain piece. It is crucial to add caulk around the perimeter of the tub. An Acrylic Latex caulk is recommended.

  • Though the surface can be put back into use after two day’s, your new finish will not be fully cured until 30 day’s have passed. During this period: DO NOT leave soap, bottles, etc… on the finished surface for a prolonged period of time.

CLEANING

Regularly clean the finish with liquid cleaners such as: Fantastic, 409, Windex, X-14 Soap Scum Remover, Scrub Free Soap Scum Remover, Dow Scrubbing Bubbles, Simple Green, etc… However ALWAYS check the cleaners warning labels for use on reglazed tubs. (Some new cleaners actually contain acids as their cleaning agent.) For Example: NEVER use “The Works” or “CLR”

DO NOT use abrasive cleaners that will scratch the surface. (Comet, Bonami, Ajax, etc.)

Long Term Care
  • We DO NOT recommend the use of the so called ‘After Shower’ sprays that claim to make your shower ‘self-cleaning’, They are just wax that will cause a wax and soap scum build up and will be difficult to remove.

  • DO NOT drop sharp or heavy objects on the finish, which may cause it to chip.

  • DO NOT bath animals (cats and dogs) in the tub as their sharp claws may scratch the finish.

  • DO NOT use rubber bath mats with suction cups or install vinyl stickers.

  • All leaky faucets must be repaired to protect the finish against the eroding effects of dripping water.

  • Destruction of the finish may occur through the improper use of acid bearing compounds, (drain openers, tile grout cleaners) all chemicals must be kept away from the finish, (cosmetics, hair dyes, perfumes) which may stain or mar the finish.

  • Remember, if you treat you new finish with respect, clean it regularly, and follow the above guidelines, your fixture will stay shiny and bright for years to come.

  • THIS REFINISHING WORK IS GUARANTEED FOR 6 YEARS OR AS STATED AT THE ESTIMATE AGAINST DEFECTS IN WORKMANSHIP AND MATERIALS, PEELING and BLISTERING.

  • We do not place a guarantee on sink refinishing or some repair work.

  • This guarantee does not apply to customer neglect of the items noted above. Such repairs will then be the responsibility of the customer and not that of Custom Coatings.

  • This guarantee is to the original purchaser, and is not transferable.

Plumbing

We are not licensed plumbers
. However, You authorize us to remove or loosen handles spouts, drain pieces, or overflow covers, or other plumbing hardware including shower doors if we determine it is necessary. In those cases YOU THE CUSTOMER will be responsible for returning those pieces to their original position. Age or general decay of pipes or fixtures may make this impossible SO PLEASE CONSULT A LICENSED PLUMBER for any areas of concern. Repair any leaks prior to our arrival. Any plumbing fixture installed or reinstalled by us is a paid courtesy and is not warranted. We are not responsible for any plumbing related damages under any circumstances.  If you choose to keep your existing drain and have us mask around it, then our warranty will be for 1 Year only.

Why is replacing the drain so important? Because a small amount of water tends to remain around the drain area after bathing, this area is the most common place for bathtub resurfacing to fail. The best way to prevent moisture from causing the finish to fail at the drain is to make sure that there is no coating edge in this area. If the drain is removed first, then we can refinish the tub below the area where the drain seats against the tub. When the new drain is installed after resurfacing, it will seal against a completely refinished surface, thus insuring that pooling water won't cause the finish to fail. If your tub cannot be out of service for more than a day, or you would prefer to avoid the expense of having a plumber remove the old drain and install a new one, you may prefer to have us install a slip-in drain. When installing this type of drain, we prepare the surface of the drain ring to accept the finish and actually apply the coating to your existing drain ring. Then, the slip-in drain is seated in epoxy on top of the refinished surface of the existing drain. This procedure is also acceptable and has the advantage of being less expensive than having a plumber remove and reinstall your tub drain.
